About The After Birth Chronicles
The After Birth Chronicles is the official blog of After Birth, a Dallas-based doula agency dedicated to supporting families from preconception through postpartum. Our team of doulas and birth educators is passionate about creating a safe, supportive, and open space for all mothers and families. We believe wholeheartedly that education, connection, and compassionate care can profoundly improve both experiences and outcomes.
Why We Created This Blog
Pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period are deeply transformative life experiences, yet far too many families feel unsupported, overwhelmed, or isolated as they navigate these critical moments. Often, new parents are taught about what should happen, without having honest conversations about what can happen. This gap in dialogue leaves families without the tools or support they need to help them handle complications, unexpected outcomes, and the emotional highs and lows of family building.
The After Birth Chronicles was created to help close that gap and foster open, honest conversations around the parts of pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and parenthood that are too often left unspoken: the unexpected emotions, the questions you’re afraid to ask, and the experiences that don’t fit into a highlight reel.
Our Commitment to Serving All
At After Birth, we are deeply committed to improving maternal health outcomes for BIPOC mothers and birthing people, who face systemic disparities in care and support. We also strive to provide affirming, culturally responsive care for LGBTQ+ parents and families of all backgrounds.
Furthermore, we believe it’s essential to speak on the many different ways families are built. Some conceive quickly, while for others it takes years of trying. Some experience infertility, pregnancy loss, or infant loss. Some grow their families through IVF, surrogacy, adoption, or donor conception. We know that deep joy and grief can live alongside each other, as can hope and heartbreak.
This is why the After Birth team is dedicated to providing individualized, trauma-informed, nonjudgmental care for families walking every path.
Making Education & Support More Accessible
By sharing evidence-based information alongside real, raw stories, The After Birth Chronicles aims to speak on the full range of experiences that come along with parenthood. Because when stories are shared, community forms, and isolation fades.
At After Birth, we know we are strongest when we show up for one another, and this belief guides everything we do. We believe that doula support and birth education are not luxuries, but essential forms of community care. That’s why we work to reduce barriers to access, including partnering with select insurance providers, companies, and organizations to help make our services more attainable.
